Most businesses don't have a content problem.

Most businesses don't have a content problem.

I once watched a client spend $40K on a beautiful brand film that got 212 views. Twelve of those were me, checking if it got views. The film wasn't the problem — the film was great. There was just no machine attached to it. A Ferrari engine sitting on a kitchen table.

I've been directing content for fifteen years, and I keep having the same conversation. A business owner looks at their feed, sighs, and decides the answer is more. More posts. More reels. Maybe a better freelancer this time. Six months later the feed is fuller and the pipeline isn't.

It's never a content problem. It's a system problem.

What I mean by "system"

Not a posting schedule. Everyone has a posting schedule. Most of them are graveyards with dates on them.

A system is what connects the four things that usually live in four different silos: a shoot rhythm that turns one filming day into a month of material, so nobody's starting from zero on a Tuesday night. Distribution built for where people actually look now — feeds, search, and the AI engines that answer questions before Google gets a chance. A job for every single piece: book the call, fill the seat, sell the thing. And measurement from day one, so the whole thing gets smarter instead of just older.

When those four are connected, one shoot day compounds for a month. When they're not, you're paying for content the way my client paid for that film — beautifully, and for nobody.

The test I give everyone

Pull up your last ten pieces of content and ask one question about each: what was this one's job? If the honest answer is "be posted," that's the diagnosis. I've run this test with founders, marketing directors, and one very confident CEO who did not enjoy it. Nobody has ever passed it by accident.

Where I'd start

Not with a bigger content budget. Start with a map: what you're publishing, what your three closest competitors are doing, and the gap between what you sell and what anyone can actually find. That's what our $750 Video Growth Audit builds in five business days. It's the first play I run with every client — because I learned that the machine is only as good as the map. The expensive way. Usually by building the machine first.
